muharam cafe, hawthorn

Saturday morning. You wake up feeling slightly less than refreshed after making it to 10pm the previous night and surviving a hellishly long week at work. Or is it just me who considers it a win to stay up past 9.30pm these days…

You are tossing up whether to buy yet another succulent for your Scandi-inspired flat when the text message arrives: “brunch?” Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! This is not a disproportionate reaction. Trust me. Choosing which lucky café will be graced with your avocado-loving presence can be a task, but fear not, there is a perfect little brunch spot just waiting to welcome your taste buds: Muharam.

Located just far enough away from the chaos of Glenferrie Road to make parking an actual possibility, Muharam has found its permanent home by the corner of Burwood Road and Power Street. There’s also a dog wash right next door, so your pooch can totally have a spa day whilst you work your way through the menu. Just saying…

Having recently received a Hollywood-esque face lift, this quaint little cafe is celebrating the Melbourne cafe culture in style with fresh white walls and indoor gardens.

If the name Muharam sounds familiar, it’s probably for good reason. They have popped up on many a list showcasing the ever-popular, diabetes-inducing “freakshake”. Before you ask, yes I did try one. Before you judge, no I did not have it at brunch.

I visited this hub of deliciousness three times in the space of two weeks. Suffice to say, I am a fan. The goal of trip one was to impress my Sydney visitor with some of Melbourne’s finest. It’s my personal opinion that there’s only ever one way to do this and that’s with smashed avo. There is no doubt that Muharam’s smashed avo on toasted chia loaf with grilled haloumi and dukkah…smashes it. Hashtag sorry not sorry

As the story goes, however, food envy comes at the most inopportune times. Whilst enjoying the happy glow that comes from devouring avocado and any form of cheese, a plate of luscious red pancakes sailed past our table. *facepalm*

So, trip number two was all about the red velvet pancakes. Red velvet pancakes with cream cheese, strawberries & warm chocolate mind you. Sweet, fluffy, chocolate and red, because LOVE. You really can’t go wrong.

Personally, covering all these tasty treats in one trip was physically impossible (pants be damned!), but hey, if you can dream it you can do it right?
